On October 9, the head of the Gagauz Autonomy of Moldova, Evgenia Gutsul, declared her innocence before the meeting of the Chisinau Court of Appeal.

"We didn't do anything. We have children, a family, and I have a three-year-old child. Every day he searches for his mother from room to room. My heart aches for the children that they have been deprived of the right to a family, to maternal affection," she said.

Hutsul added that he hopes for a favorable outcome of the court session, and that "there is democracy" in the country.

The day before, the Chisinau Court of Appeal refused to release the Bashkan of Gagauzia from custody. Hutsul's lawyer Natalia Bayram, in turn, said that during the investigation, the head of Gagauzia was offered to resign from the position of bashkan of the autonomy in exchange for ending criminal prosecution.

Hutsul, accused of allegedly financing the Shor party, was sentenced to seven years in prison on August 5. This case, which caused a wide worldwide response, attracted international lawyers William Julie and Gonzalo Boye to its decision, who, among others, defended the defendant.

On September 17, Julie pointed out the political nature of the trial against the Hutsuls. According to him, she had practically no real opportunity to defend herself, as Moldovan lawyers received only two weeks to study the case in more than 60 volumes, consisting of approximately 16 thousand pages.
