Hungary refused to make exceptions to the proposed European Commission (EC) total ban on imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) from January 2027 as part of the 19th package of sanctions. This was reported on October 9 by the EUobserver portal, citing sources.

According to EUobserver, Budapest had previously tried to get an exception for itself in order to continue receiving Russian gas, but at a meeting of ambassadors of the European Union (EU) countries, the Hungarian representative "did not object" to this proposal.
