A resident of Stavropol was sentenced for the death of a pedestrian in a drunken accident

A court in the Stavropol Territory has sentenced a 41-year-old motorist who got behind the wheel drunk and killed a pedestrian. This is reported by the regional prosecutor's office.

The hit-and-run occurred in September 2023 in the city of Mikhailovsk. A drunk local resident got behind the wheel, hit a 43-year-old man, and then fled the scene of the accident, towing his car to his house.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian received various injuries, from which he died on the spot, the Stavropol news agency clarifies.Media.

The court found the motorist guilty under clauses "a, b" of Part 4 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of traffic rules that negligently caused the death of a person committed by a person in a state of intoxication, associated with leaving the place of its commission") and sentenced him to seven years in prison.

The driver will have to serve his sentence in a penal colony. He is also banned from driving for two years after that. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
