The media reported on the use of AI by people instead of lawyers in the United States
There is a new trend in the United States: citizens are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to solve legal issues, replacing traditional legal services and winning court cases. This was reported on October 8 by NBC News.
As an example, they cited the story of American Lynn White, who was threatened with eviction from her mobile home in Long Beach for non-payment of rent. After losing in court with an appointed lawyer, she filed an appeal using AI tools such as ChatGPT and Perplexity, and achieved a positive result by saving housing and reducing debt.
"White regularly provided ChatGPT with documents and detailed information about her case. The chatbot helped White identify potential errors in the judge's procedural decisions, outline possible options for action, study applicable legislation and compile responses for the court," the article says.
It clarifies that, despite this success, major AI developers have taken an ambiguous position regarding the use of their products in the legal field. Some companies have warned users against using AI to obtain legal advice, emphasizing that their services are not a substitute for professional advice.
Google, in turn, cautioned that their services are not intended to provide medical, legal or financial advice. xAI has also limited the use of its models in regulated industries.
However, despite these warnings, most AI-based chatbots are willing to answer legal questions and provide advice, although they accompany their answers with standard reservations about possible inaccuracy of information.
The New York Post (NYP) reported on September 20 that Carrie Edwards, a US citizen who won $150,000 (12.6 million rubles) in the lottery, asked for a tip from ChatGPT while filling out a ticket. It was clarified that with the help of AI, she was able to guess four of the five winning numbers.
