Shakespeare expert and theater critic Alexei Bartoshevich has died at the age of 85. This was announced on October 8 by the GITIS press service.

"Alexey Vadimovich Bartoshevich, professor, Doctor of Art History, head of the Department of History of the Foreign Theater of GITIS, Honored Scientist of Russia, a great man, died at the age of 86," the Telegram channel wrote.

Bartoshevich studied at GITIS at the Faculty of Theater Studies and there began to study in depth the work of the British poet and playwright William Shakespeare. His thesis was called "Hamlet" as interpreted by Nemirovich-Danchenko." Later, his PhD (1965) and doctoral dissertations (1985) were also devoted to Shakespeare's work.

Since 1963, Bartoshevich, then a graduate student at GITIS, taught at this university. In 1974, he became an employee of the State Institute of Art Studies. In 1987-1991, he was secretary of the Union of Theatrical Figures of the USSR. In the 1990s, he began working on television, hosting popular science programs about Shakespeare.
