- Zakharova noted the importance of countering deepfakes against the background of their growing number.
On October 8, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at the second international symposium "Creating the Future" that it was important to counter deepfakes, the number of which was growing rapidly.
"Soon, unfortunately, the whole world will be entangled in these same deepfakes. The growth and speed of the emergence of artificial intelligence technology and products using it is similar to the vertical launch of a space rocket," she said.
Zakharova stressed that the development of artificial intelligence is proceeding at such a high speed that there are no legal and international norms capable of regulating the use of such technologies. She noted that this would lead to the creation of a "fake matrix" where reality would be replaced by artificial images and videos.
"Then we will have to look at how to counter this globally," the Foreign Ministry representative added.
Earlier, on October 5, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the appearance on the Internet of a new deepfake using the image of Maria Zakharova. It was noted that the scammers used a real video from Zakharova's interview for Sputnik radio, replacing the original sound with one generated by artificial intelligence.
