The Central Bank promised not to take drastic steps regarding the operation of Visa and Mastercard cards.

Visa and Mastercard cards will continue to work in Russia, there will be no drastic steps to disable them. This was announced on October 8 by Alla Bakina, head of the Department of the National Payment System of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, to journalists on the sidelines of Finopolis 2025.

"We have found a solution so that the cards are not blocked, we will not take any drastic steps that will cause inconvenience to citizens," TASS quoted her as saying.

Bakina added that the Central Bank is in regular dialogue with banks on this issue.

On the same day, Dmitry Dubynin, General Director of the National Payment Card System (NSPK), announced that the planned gradual withdrawal of Visa and Mastercard bank cards from circulation in Russia is related to their expired security certificates. It was noted that the NSPK is currently working on forming a common opinion of market participants in order to present it to the Bank of Russia in the future.
