Psychologist Cardiakos named a way to get enough sleep
Anastasia Cardiakos, a family psychologist and psychotherapist, told us how to get enough sleep and not get up exhausted in the morning.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Wednesday, October 8, the expert explained that the key to understanding sleep lies in the individual characteristics of hormones. In some people, melatonin, which is responsible for falling asleep, is destroyed faster, so it is more difficult for them to adapt in the morning. According to her, it is precisely because of this that many feel overwhelmed in the morning - their body simply does not have time to completely get rid of melatonin.
The specialist emphasized that universal sleep hygiene tips are not always effective — an integrated approach is needed that takes into account the peculiarities of each person's physiology and psychology. She noted that not only the number of hours is important for quality sleep, but also the emotional mood before bedtime. People whose melatonin is synthesized more slowly should put off gadgets in advance and finish their chores in order to give the body time to switch from a state of activity to a rest mode, writes RT.
Cardiakos also mentioned several rules that are useful for all chronotypes: do not overeat before going to bed, ventilate the room and monitor the comfort of the bed.
She added that late awakenings are often not related to physiology, but to psychological reasons: the evening often becomes the only time for rest and personal affairs. In conclusion, the expert noted that for an easy awakening, it is important to find your own motivation, and not just adjust to someone else's regime.
Earlier that day, psychologist and neuropsychologist Maria Todorova told Izvestia about the effects of emotions and sleep on long-term memory.
In January, internist and immunologist Irina Yartseva, in an interview with the National Health Service, called for getting enough sleep in winter to maintain immunity. According to her, it is useful to take additional vitamin D in winter. Yartseva also advised to avoid overheating and pay attention to the choice of winter clothing. 360.ru .
