Sales of new large-capacity trucks fell by 57% in Russia
In January – September of this year, 32.9 thousand new large—tonnage trucks (HCVs with a gross weight of more than 16 tons) were sold in Russia, which is 57.4% less than in the same period last year. This is stated in the message of the analytical agency Autostat, which was received by Izvestia on October 9.
The market for new heavy trucks has been steadily declining since November last year, and by May it had reached a minimum value (2.7 thousand units). Subsequently, it slightly regained its decline, but it continues to balance for the third month in a row at the level of 3.5–3.6 thousand units, said Sergey Tselikov, director of the agency. One of the reasons for this is related to the sales structure by year of production.
"According to the results of 9 months, 68% of the sales volume accounted for equipment manufactured in 2023-2024. This is the result of the huge drains with which the market entered this year. At the same time, HCV imports are now the lowest in recent history. The darkest sales situation is observed in the tractor and dump truck segments, which have dropped by 64-71%," the expert said.
A similar pattern is observed in the vintage section, where Chinese equipment faced the actions of the regulator: sales of Shacman equipment decreased by 70%, while Sitrak and FAW decreased by 68% each, Autostat noted.
The market leader for new HCVs during the reporting period is KamAZ, which accounted for 30% (9.9 thousand units; -17%). At the same time, a year ago it was almost half as much (15.4%). The second and third positions are occupied by Sitrak and Shacman, which were higher than KAMAZ a year ago. They have so far managed to maintain a market share of over 10%.
The most popular model in the segment remains the Sitrak C7H tractor truck, which sold 5,000 units in the first 9 months of this year (more than 15% of all heavy truck sales). It is followed by three KAMAZ models, the results of each of which fall short of 3 thousand units.
Earlier, on October 7, it was reported that a new version of the popular low-tonnage off-road vehicle "Sable NN 4x4" was presented at the International Gas Forum in St. Petersburg. The car is equipped with a bi-fuel engine that can run on gasoline or compressed natural gas.
Also at the exhibition, KAMAZ demonstrated for the first time the KamAZ-52229 tourist bus, the model belongs to the new generation A5 and runs on compressed natural gas (CNG). The cabin has 47 seats, a kitchen unit with a refrigerator and a toilet.
