The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed to the time-tested friendship between Russia and Cuba

The friendship between Russia and Cuba has been tested by time. This was announced on October 8 at a briefing by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"We are really friends, our friendship is time-tested. It was different, but in absolute terms it was the focus on support, on the special nature of the relationship," Zakharova said.

This is how she commented on the agreement between the governments of the Russian Federation and Cuba on military cooperation, which was ratified by the Federation Council. In addition, the diplomat pointed out the bilateral nature of the relations between the two states.

"We are building our relations in different directions, <... Based on the countries' interest in implementing specific projects, in specific supplies, in a specific type of cooperation, interaction and partnership," Zakharova concluded.

On the same day, the senators ratified the agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Cuba on military cooperation, signed on March 13, 2025 in Havana and March 19, 2025 in Moscow. It was noted that the agreement is concluded for five years with an automatic extension for subsequent five-year periods.

On September 24, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, during a meeting with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez at the UN General Assembly, confirmed the Russian position on the need for the United States to end the trade, economic and financial blockade of Cuba. In addition, Lavrov and Rodriguez stressed the mutual commitment of the parties to maintain a political dialogue between the states and deepen cooperation in trade and economic areas. They also expressed their desire for further cooperation in the United Nations and BRICS.
