- NIS's supplying pipeline operator in Croatia has been granted a reprieve from US sanctions
The Adriatic Pipeline (JANAF) in Croatia, which supplies fuel to the Russian-Serbian company NIS, has received a reprieve from US sanctions until October 15. This was announced on October 8 by the JANAF press service.
"JANAF d.d. has received a license allowing participation in its normal oil transportation activities to carry out all activities under the previously concluded contract for the transportation of crude oil until October 15, 2025," the company's website says.
It is clarified that to date, JANAF has not received an official document stating that NIS has been granted a license for the above period.
Earlier, on September 4, US President Donald Trump demanded that European leaders completely abandon purchases of Russian oil. According to Reuters, Trump made a similar statement during a telephone conversation with the leaders of the European Union.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on September 25 that US sanctions against the Russian-Serbian NIS would come into force on October 1. Back in early January, he also noted that in the event of sanctions from the American side, the country was ready to buy out the Russian stake in NIS. He added that if the company's value is €1 billion, then the share can be bought out for about €600 million.
