Viktor Momotov, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Russia, caused damage to the state in the amount of more than 500 million rubles as a result of tax evasion. This was announced on October 8 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the hall of the Ostankino District Court of Moscow.

"Momotov artificially fragmented the business and evaded taxes. The damage from the latter amounted to more than 500 million rubles and has not yet been repaid," the prosecutor said.

The court refused to grant the petition of Momotov's lawyer, who asked to close the trial, stating that the case contains personal information and bank secrecy.

On September 23, it was reported that the Ostankino District Court of the capital received a lawsuit from the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation against Momotov. According to the source of Izvestia, as part of the lawsuit, the agency requires the seizure of real estate registered to third parties. The judge registered the acquired real estate and business with trusted and controlled persons, without declaring his income.

On the same day, Momotov appealed to the commission of the Council of Judges with a request to verify information disseminated in the media about possible violations of anti-corruption legislation. Momotov said that after the official notification of the receipt of the relevant claim in court, he is ready to provide all necessary explanations and documents.

On September 26, it became known that the Supreme Qualification Board of Judges of the Russian Federation (HCCC) of Russia prematurely terminated the powers of Judge Momotov. On October 3, the court restricted Momotov's travel abroad.
