The Russians brought over 5 tons of coins to the PSB during the "Coin Week"

During the Coin Week autumn campaign, the PSB branches accepted about 1.2 million coins in various denominations from Russians. The total amount of change deposited was about 5 million rubles, and the weight of all coins exceeded 5 tons, the bank's press service said.

Russians were most active in exchanging coins with a face value of 10 rubles. Their share was 25% of the total amount of collected change. In second place is a one—ruble coin, and in third place is a two—ruble coin. Residents of Russia also actively exchanged pennies, more than 30 thousand such copies were handed over.

The leader in the number of accepted coins was the PSB office in Bryansk, where residents handed over about 280 thousand pieces worth over 1 million rubles during the campaign. The smallest exchange operation was carried out in the amount of 18 rubles at the PSB branch in Ostrogozhsk, Voronezh region.

As Yuri Latanov, head of the PSB's Savings and Transaction Products Department, noted, the Coin Week campaign has important social significance and allows Russians to effectively optimize their personal budget. "Small coins that are not taken into account in everyday expenses often amount to significant amounts that can be used to pay for large purchases and to pay off loan debt," Latanov said.

In addition, he continued, the "Coin Week" allows for the return of a large number of coins into circulation, which reduces the need for minting new banknotes and thus significantly saves government resources for their production. "As part of the autumn campaign, Russians exchanged coins for paper bills more often, and the share of non-cash deposits in the total volume of all exchange transactions turned out to be significantly lower," the representative of the bank added.

The Coin Week was held from September 22 to October 4 with the support of the Bank of Russia. Anyone could bring coins to the banks that participated in the campaign and exchange them for banknotes or replenish their account with the amount of change deposited.
