German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who wish to continue the Ukrainian conflict, should join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on October 7 by the leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Alice Weidel.

"Our soldiers should not be sent to foreign war zones. Never. And above all, not to Ukraine. You know my position.: Whoever wants conflict, let him go. Let Friedrich Merz go. <...> If Pistorius wants conflict so much, let him go himself, too," she said during a speech to reporters in the Bundestag.

Weidel also criticized the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) for becoming an instrument of political pressure on its member countries.

Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in an interview with the Hungarian newspaper Partizan on October 4, called on the European Union (EU) countries to seek a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian issue instead of continuing to strengthen their defense spending. According to Merkel, when she was in her post, from 2005 to 2021, she always remembered that all members of the alliance had to act together.
