The Russian Security Council noted an increase in threats to the security of the CSTO

The level of threats faced by the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and its members, growing and diversifying. This was announced on October 7 at a meeting of the Committee on CIS issues of the Scientific and Expert Council of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

According to the press service of the ministry, on the eve of Russia's upcoming CSTO presidency in 2026, participants discussed issues of improving international cooperation within this international regional organization.

"The importance of strengthening coordination in the CSTO, improving cooperation mechanisms, developing interaction with other states and international organizations, adapting to a dynamically changing environment and developing effective measures to respond to existing and emerging security challenges and threats, including preventive actions, was emphasized," the ministry said.

It was also stated at the meeting that, against the background of accelerating the processes of establishing a multipolar world order, the CSTO has every opportunity to strengthen its position as one of the supporting elements of the emerging integrated security architecture in Eurasia.

In addition, the Organization remains a key and, by most parameters, the only interstate association capable of ensuring the security not only of its members, but also of territories adjacent to the zones of collective responsibility.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the plenary session of the XXII annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club on October 2, said that Russia would respond quickly if any threats arose against it, so it was not worth provoking it. According to him, there have been no examples in history when such actions would end well for the initiator of the conflict.
