Pavel Durov will not be fined after swimming in Kolsal Lake in Kazakhstan

The administration of the Kolsal Islands National Park in Kazakhstan does not plan to impose a fine on Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram messenger. This was announced on October 7 by the park administration.

"We didn't see him on the spot, how can we in absentia? <...> At the moment, of course, we won't be able (to fine. — Ed.), was not in place (compiled. — Ed.) of the act. Moreover, he is not a citizen of Kazakhstan," TASS quoted a representative of the administration as saying.

The administration also clarified that swimming in the lakes is prohibited and it is written in the rules of visiting the park. The stipulated fine is 10 monthly calculation indices or 39,320 tenge ($72.7).

Footage showing Durov swimming in the lake of the Kolsai Lakes Nature Reserve appeared earlier on October 7. The businessman shared them on his Telegram channel. The video shows snow-capped mountains, and ethnic music is playing in the background.

On the same day, the park administration announced that an internal investigation would be conducted after Durov's swim. An inspection has been launched in connection with the incident.
