- The WSJ has learned about the concerns of Macron's supporters about the state of democracy in France
Supporters of French President Emmanuel Macron express concern about their leader's policies, as they fear that he will push the "architecture of democracy" to the limit. This was reported on October 7 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.
The corresponding concerns, as noted in the text of the publication, arose against the background of the crisis in the country, which, according to the interlocutors of the publication, could drag France into a "fatal loop."
"In an attempt to pull France out of its financial spiral, Macron is exhausting the battery of tools available to him in accordance with the constitution. <...> His own allies have begun to wonder if he is pushing the architecture of French democracy to the limit," the article says.
Olivier Costa, a professor at the University of Sciences Po in Paris and the National Center for Scientific Research in France, added that one of the parts of this problem is Macron's use of his powers in a way that is irrelevant for the 21st century. The president, as emphasized in the publication, operates in a completely different "political landscape."
On the same day, the leader of the Rebellious France party, Mathilde Pano, proposed to begin preparations for the impeachment of Macron. According to her, 70% of French citizens support Macron's departure from the presidency.
