In Crimea, a chestnut tree with five trunks, planted in 1829 and recognized as a natural monument in 1972, had to be cut down due to a disease that affected it. This was announced on October 7 by Olga Shevtsova, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic.

"This chestnut was declared a natural monument in 1972, it is believed that this is the only chestnut in the world that has five trunks. <...> For the first time at the end of 2016-2017, residents [of the house where the tree grew] reported that something was wrong with the chestnut tree, and we conducted an expert examination. <...> An examination in 2022 revealed that mushrooms had settled in the trunk of the chestnut tree, which began to destroy the trunk from the inside. <...> Today it was demolished," the publication says on the VKontakte page.
