The administration of St. Petersburg expressed support for the proposal of the Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia Valentina Matvienko to terminate free medical care under the compulsory medical insurance policy for non-working citizens of Russia. This was announced on October 7 at a meeting of the government of St. Petersburg by Svetlana Enilina, head of the Finance Committee of the city administration.

"We fully support the proposed initiative," said the head of the committee.

According to her, the adoption of the federal law will significantly ease the financial burden on regional budgets and ensure a more equitable distribution of resources.

On October 6, Matvienko proposed collecting contributions in the amount of 45 thousand rubles to the Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund (MHIF) from Russians who do not work or receive shadow incomes. It was clarified that she expressed concern about the situation when healthy able-bodied people who do not work officially or receive shadow incomes do not pay for health insurance.
