The issue of the release of Israeli hostages in the Gaza Strip is a key disagreement in the settlement of the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian radical movement Hamas. This is stated by an Orientalist, program manager of the Russian Council on International Affairs (RIAC). Ivan Bocharov said on Tuesday, October 7.

"Over the past two years, Hamas has consistently stated: first, the withdrawal of the Israeli military and the cessation of hostilities, and only then the release of the hostages. <...> Israel, on the contrary, puts forward its own preconditions," he said in an interview. Lenta.Ru .

Bocharov commented on the differences between Israel and Hamas in the settlement of the conflict and pointed out the fundamental nature of the issue of disarmament for the Palestinian movement. The expert also noted that the Hamas response completely lacks a reaction to the idea of creating an international body to govern the Gaza Strip.

Earlier in the day, during the second day of negotiations on the settlement of the conflict in Gaza in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, the Hamas delegation demanded that the release of hostages be linked to the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip. It is claimed that the movement also demanded international guarantees for the final end of the conflict and the complete withdrawal of the IDF from Gaza.

The US President Donald Trump's plan for ending the conflict in the Gaza Strip, published by the White House on September 29, which was also supported by key Arab and Islamic countries the next day, described 20 points in detail, RT reports.

On October 3, Hamas representatives announced their agreement to transfer control of the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian committee and release all Israeli hostages. They also expressed their willingness to immediately begin negotiations through intermediaries to discuss the details of a possible agreement. The next day, the Israeli authorities ordered the suspension of military operations in the Gaza Strip.

Later, on October 5, the foreign ministers of eight Arab countries — the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, Indonesia and Egypt — called for an immediate mechanism to establish peace in the Gaza Strip.
