- Zakharova responded to the words of the Finnish Foreign Minister about the Helsinki Principles
The words of Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen that Russia allegedly violates each of the ten Helsinki principles are an outright lie, to which everyone has become accustomed. This was stated on October 7 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noting that these are the very principles in the development of which Valtonen herself took part 50 years ago.
"It's an outright lie, which everyone is already used to. However, what Valtonen is right about is that the Helsinki principles of half a century ago are indeed being violated. And they are violated by those who signed up to them — the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) member states. — ed.)," Zakharova said in her Telegram channel.
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave an example of violations by OSCE members of each of the ten "inviolable principles." Thus, the principle of non-use of force or threat of force was violated in 1999, when NATO bombed Yugoslavia without a United Nations (UN) mandate. The principle of inviolability of borders was violated in 2008, when Western countries recognized Kosovo's independence without Serbia's consent.
"Elina is not a diplomat by diploma or work experience and has never been. <...> Western Europe does not need professionals in leadership positions. Everyone understands what place the EU has in the structure of the world body, which is controlled by gynecologist Ursula [von der Leyen]," the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said on September 13 that the country's decision to sever ties with Russia had a negative impact on the Scandinavian state's economy. He stressed that the closure of the border with the Russian Federation led to the fact that Finnish companies suffered losses, losing billions of investments.
Sergey Ivanov, a permanent member of the Security Council and Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport, noted on September 18 that Finland had suffered significantly from the severance of ties with Russia, and the country's economy was collapsing against this background. According to Ivanov, over time, the Finnish side realizes that "good-neighborly relations with Russia are much more beneficial than their absence and hostility.
