- In Kazakhstan, an investigation will be conducted after Durov's swimming in a protected lake
After the swim of Pavel Durov, the founder of the Telegram messenger, in Lake Kolsai in Kazakhstan, located on the territory of the Kolsai Lakes National Reserve, an internal investigation will be conducted. This was announced on October 7 in the State National Nature Park.
They reminded that swimming on the Kolsai lakes is strictly prohibited, as indicated in the passport of the tourist route. An inspection has been launched in connection with the incident.
"An internal investigation has been initiated, following which disciplinary measures will be taken against officials who have allowed improper control of the assigned site," the message on the reserve's Instagram page says (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
According to the rules, the fine for swimming in the lake is 39,320 tenge ($72.7). At the same time, the park administration commented that it was not planned to punish Durov himself yet, since none of the employees had personally seen the Russian in the water.
"We did not see him on the spot, how can we in absentia? <...> At the moment, of course, we will not be able to [fine], there was no [drawn up] act on the spot. Moreover, he is not a citizen of Kazakhstan," TASS quoted the source as saying.
Footage showing Durov swimming in the lake of the Kolsai Lakes Nature Reserve appeared earlier on October 7. The businessman shared them on his Telegram channel. The video shows snow-capped mountains, and ethnic music is playing in the background. The park administration, commenting on the swim of a Russian citizen, noted that this is an administrative offense, and the violator faces a fine.
