The mayor of Herdecke (North Rhine-Westphalia) in Germany, Iris Stalzer, was attacked by unknown assailants, stabbing her several times. This was announced on October 7 by the Focus publication.

The police are searching for the attackers. The agency does not rule out any possibility, including a political motive. Stalzer was hospitalized in serious condition.
