- In Poland, Merkel was called a malicious politician because of the words about Warsaw's guilt in its
Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, commenting on the words of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel about Warsaw's guilt at the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, called her a "harmful politician" for Europe. He published a corresponding statement on October 7 on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
"Angela Merkel <...> in her last interview, she proved that, although she is retired, she is still one of the most harmful German politicians for Europe this century," Morawiecki wrote.
The former prime minister also accused Merkel of making Europe dependent on Russian energy, opening borders to millions of migrants and weakening the continent militarily, energetically, technologically and culturally.
The day before, Merkel said that in 2021 she had put forward an initiative for a new format of dialogue between the EU and Russia to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, but Poland and the Baltic countries opposed the idea and this could be an indirect reason for the aggravation of the crisis and the decision to hold its own. According to her, Poland and the Baltic States feared that the EU would not be able to develop a common policy for dialogue with the Russian Federation.
Later, on October 7, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the European Union (EU) and Brussels were hostages of the "frenzied politics" of Warsaw and the Baltic states. He also agreed with Merkel's words, who said that Poland and the Baltic States indirectly provoked the start of a special military operation.
