Gadget expert Ilya Korneychuk said that phones can catch fire during charging due to a manufacturing defect or spontaneous battery ignition.

In conversation with aif.ru On Tuesday, October 7, the expert explained that the causes of the fire of the phones may be different. According to him, the battery often swells up and the device becomes unusable, but people continue to use and charge it, although the phone appears to be in good working order. Sometimes users try to replace the battery themselves, damage the protective shell, which leads to interaction with oxygen and subsequent fire.

The specialist added that when the battery is worn out, metal dendrites may form, which pierce the separator and cause a short circuit, leading to spontaneous combustion.

He also noted that factory defects can occur due to violations of the technological process, contamination or errors not detected by the quality control system.
