Kovalchuk spoke about the advantages of the Transarctic Corridor for Russia
The Transarctic transport corridor, passing through the North Seas and connecting the West with the East of Russia, will make the country beyond competition in terms of logistics. This was announced on October 7 by Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center.
He stressed that now, thanks to the efforts of the Russian Emperor Peter I and the Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU, Joseph Stalin, it is possible to get by water transport to anywhere in Russia in the European part.
Kovalchuk added that Russia has tens of thousands of rivers, 62 of them are large, and now the task of the Russian Federation is to repeat in the eastern part of the country what was done in the western part in the past centuries, namely— to connect the North and South of Russia with the help of rivers.
"This is the Transarctic transport corridor, which will make our country absolutely out of competition in terms of logistics. We will connect the East with the West completely on our territory," Kovalchuk said during a plenary session and a meeting of the Scientific and expert Council of the Russian Maritime Collegium.
On September 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the interest of countries in the Transarctic route is growing. He also noted that the Transarctic Corridor should be an integrated system combining sea, rail and road modes of transport, with the opportunity to use the potential of Russia's largest rivers.
