When a pet gets lost, it can be a real challenge for the owner. Panic and anxiety overwhelm a person, but it is important to remember that there are many steps that will help bring a furry friend home. Victoria Romanovskaya, a veterinarian and expert of the Triol brand, told Izvestia on October 10.

"The more quickly you organize the search, the higher the probability of a successful outcome. First, check out the familiar walking spots. Many dogs return exactly to the place where they "lost" their owner. Calling your pet with familiar words, using squeaky toys or treats that he is used to - all this works better than searching blindly. We also recommend leaving a "scent trail" — small pieces of food or treats from the place of loss to the house. Sometimes animals instinctively follow this path back," the expert said.

In addition, the doctor stated that it is important not to be alone. It is necessary to involve relatives, friends, and neighbors in the case — distribute districts among them in order to cover more territory. Carefully inspect the immediate surroundings — the courtyard, entrance, basement, garages, neighboring plots. The probability that an animal is hiding somewhere nearby is high if something has scared it off.

It is recommended to search not only during the day, but also in the evening, when it is quieter and easier to hear the pet. Animals respond well to familiar sounds — the rustle of a bag of food, the clatter of a bowl, the opening of a can of canned food. This helps especially with cats. Try to walk around the yard at night and repeat these sounds — the chance that the pet will come out on its own is very high.

"Do not delay the creation of a detailed announcement — you will need several photos, a nickname, a breed, signs, your phone, the area of the disappearance. Post it in local groups and social media communities, especially those that specialize in finding animals. Ask your friends to share the post," Romanovskaya added.

In addition, do not forget about offline — post ads in the area, interview passers-by and neighbors. Even if it seems like it's useless, it's important to spread the word as much as possible. Word of mouth also works well: talk to janitors, security guards, and sellers of nearby stores — they are often the first to notice animals in the yard.

The expert also recommended reporting the loss to the nearest veterinary clinics, shelters and dog services: the animal could have already been noticed or temporarily sheltered. If a pet carries an addressee or is chipped, it can be quickly identified by its number.

On October 3, Vladimir Golubev, President of the Russian Cynological Federation, explained what an orthopedic dog bed should be. A good memory model is expensive, but it will last a long time. It is better to take the size with a margin of at least 15 cm more than the length of the pet. You can do without an ordinary pillow or a house, the main thing is to provide the dog with a comfortable and protected place.
