Political instability in France amid government reshuffles may lead to a weakening of the European Union (EU) and a deterioration of the economic situation in the region. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on October 7.

"France is too big to fail, so this endless instability puts the entire eurozone at risk," the newspaper quoted an unnamed European diplomat as saying.

Several diplomats noted that the EU budget would be easier to discuss if France sent the same finance minister to the negotiations. In addition, the budget debate may be disrupted if French opposition forces come to power — then the political situation in the country may hit the "coalition of the willing," writes Politico.

It is clarified that a number of French officials reacted calmly to the resignation of Prime Minister Sebastien Lecorny. According to them, despite the "complexity of the situation," the country's Ministry of Economy still "has a pilot in the cockpit."

French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecorny submitted his resignation letter to the country's leader Emmanuel Macron on October 6. The Head of State accepted this petition. According to the Prime Minister, one of the reasons was the reaction of the opposition to his decision to abandon the application of Article 49.3 of the Constitution, as well as the position of political parties, the "lack of conditions for the work" of the government and the awakening of "party ambitions."

On the same day, The Times newspaper called Macron a lame duck who is unable to promote his policies to parliament. The publication noted that the French leader is offered three options for solving the crisis in the government: the first is to appoint a prime minister from the left parties, the second is to hold parliamentary elections again, and the third is his own resignation.
