The state budget of the Russian Federation is annually deprived of approximately 10 billion rubles due to illegal mining. This was announced on October 6 by Peter Fedorov, Associate Professor at the National Research University of the National Research University of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in an interview with Izvestia.
"The main estimate now is that about 10 billion a year is lost on taxes in Russia due to illegal mining," he said.
According to the expert, it is difficult to name the exact amount of losses, since funds that do not enter the budget due to illegal mining processes are not taken into account anywhere. However, as Fedorov explained, the amount he named was revealed by analyzing data from open sources and the volume of resources found.
One of the latest episodes of illegal mining, as the expert added, was recorded in the Irkutsk region, where 7.6 thousand points specializing in illegal mining of cryptocurrencies were identified throughout the year.
He clarified that this trend adversely affects not only the state budget, but also the state of power grids located in populated areas where blackouts sometimes occur.
"First of all, those areas where there is a strictly limited amount of electricity suffer, and if consumption is too high, there are outages due to overloading," the specialist summed up.
Information about the detection of underground mining farms in several Russian regions appeared on the same day earlier. It was clarified that the cryptocurrency was mined even at thermal power plants (CHP), and during searches thousands of pieces of equipment were found, the power of which would allow light to be installed in hundreds of residential buildings.
