Rospotrebnadzor predicted a decrease in shadow turnover after the introduction of labeling of goods

Regular consumption of tonic drinks is fraught with blood pressure spikes, insomnia and anxiety.

Digital labeling already covers 33 product categories, including mass-produced food products in Russia: dairy products, packaged water, beverages and juices, as well as biologically active food additives (dietary supplements) and others.

"Based on the labeling data, we are building various control models aimed at identifying illegal and potentially dangerous products that have not passed a proper safety compliance assessment. The control applies to retail chains and is aimed at preventing the entry of unmarked goods into stores," Rospotrebnadzor said.

Rospotrebnadzor emphasized that control methods are constantly being improved: new risk indicators are being introduced, digital analytics tools and automation of procedures for detecting violators are being used.

"We are increasing the number of preventive measures and inspections aimed at curbing mass violations and combating unfair practices," the agency's experts said.

All these measures lead to the whitewashing of the market. According to Rospotrebnadzor, the share of illegal trafficking is decreasing, and the volume of production of labeled products is growing annually. For example, by the end of 2024, the pace of market legalization in the field of dietary supplements circulation turned out to be one of the highest: if in 2023 the share of legal turnover was about 79%, then in 2024 it increased to 84%. In addition, the number of legal importers of dietary supplements has increased tenfold, and the number of legal manufacturers has almost tripled.

As it became known earlier, starting from March 1, 2026, Russia may introduce mandatory labeling of an expanded list of groceries and other food products at the suggestion of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The relevant draft government decree is posted on the portal of draft regulatory legal acts.
