Canadian hockey player, 28-year-old forward Connor McDavid, has signed a new contract with the Edmonton Oilers, the National Hockey League (NHL) announced on October 6.

The two-year agreement will enter into force in the 2026/27 season. On average, McDavid's annual salary will be $12.5 million.

"Our journey continues here," a message appeared on McDavid's page on the social network X (ex. Twitter) before the deal became known.

The player's previous eight-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers is coming to an end. The contract for $100 million (approximately $12.5 million per year) was signed on July 5, 2017. According to the annual ranking of the top 50 strongest hockey players of Sport Express, released on October 6, McDavid came out on top again.

"The Canadian genius never won the Stanley Cup, but the lack of a trophy does not prevent him from being considered the best hockey player of our time," the newspaper points out.

Last season, McDavid helped the Oilers reach their second consecutive Stanley Cup Final, in which they again lost to the Florida Panthers. McDavid has 33 points (7 goals, 26 assists) in 22 NHL playoff games, equaling teammate Leon Draisaitl in their number.
