On October 6, US President Donald Trump announced that he had had a telephone conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

"I had a very good phone conversation with Brazilian President Lula. We discussed a lot of things, but mostly it was about the economy and trade between our countries," Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.

Trump also said that the countries will have further discussions. In addition, Trump added that the leaders will meet "in the not too distant future, both in Brazil and in the United States."

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lulu da Silva wrote an open essay to start a frank dialogue with Trump. He stressed that the imposition of such duties on goods from Brazil is a mistaken and illogical act. He noted that such a decision has no economic justification, therefore, the motivation for this step is political.
