Russian athletes returning from the World Sambo Championships in Indonesia were welcomed on October 6 at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport. Footage of the athletes' meeting is published by Izvestia.

"The competitions were held with dignity, the Russian national team won team first places in all disciplines. <...> We represented the city of Moscow, the Sambo-70 sports club. Our athletes performed well, won six medals and really showed that the Sambo-70 sports school and the city of Moscow can represent themselves well on the international stage," Vladimir Bogomolov, coach of the Moscow and Russian national teams, told Izvestia.

He noted the importance of participating in a tournament of this scale — 34 countries were present at the championship.

"All the athletes showed themselves with dignity, fought to the end. We hope that the next competitions will be held with the national anthem and the flag of our country," Bogomolov added.

Demid Volkov, one of the winners, said that the competition was wonderful. He said that he had fought three fights, winning one of them ahead of schedule, and the final fight, in which he won with a North-South choke, was especially memorable to him. The athlete also noted the good atmosphere at the tournament, stressing that everyone was sick and worried about the participants.

"I am happy for the Russian national team as a whole, because we took the first team place in juniors, boys, girls, and combat sambo. In general, they dominated. in almost all scales. The guys fought well and tried their best. We have achieved almost everything we wanted," said Alexander-Shine Kvachantiradze, an athlete of the national team.

Earlier in June, Russian SAMBO wrestlers won 17 medals (seven gold, four silver and six bronze) on the second day of the World Cup in Yerevan. Thus, following the results of two days of competition, domestic athletes won the medal standings of the tournament by a solid margin, winning a total of 36 awards (15 gold, 11 silver, 10 bronze). On the first day of the World Cup, our athletes won 19 medals (eight gold, seven silver and four bronze).
