The Federation Council reacted to the preparation of a "special tribunal" against Russia

European preparatory work on the "special tribunal" against Russia has been underway for a long time, and the country is of little interest in it. Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council's International Affairs Committee, expressed this opinion on Monday, October 6.

"We are not interested in it because it has an absolutely cavalier and brazen character of squeezing Russia out of all possible structures of international life," Karasin said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

He added that Russia would take this calmly, giving a derogatory characterization of both the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, who heads this work, and all the work that is underway.

The senator also noted that Russia should not respond to such actions, so as not to be drawn into unnecessary controversy.

Earlier that day, Berset said that large-scale preparatory work was underway on the so-called special tribunal against Russia, RT reports. According to him, the functioning of the "special tribunal" will require financial support from the member states of the Council of Europe. At the same time, the Secretary General clarified that it is not yet possible to name specific launch dates, since this process is not fully within the competence of the Council of Europe, according to the website. kp.ru .

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted on June 26 that Moscow would consider the accession of third countries to the legally insignificant tribunal of the Council of Europe and Ukraine as a hostile demarche. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the Council of Europe was among the first to advocate the creation of "quasi-judicial mechanisms" aimed at the Russian Federation.
