The assault brigade of the Russian Vostok group of forces, liberating the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), exposed the Ukrainian military who tried to deceive them by wearing a Russian military uniform. This was announced on October 6 by a participant in a special military operation (SVO) with the call sign Almaz in an interview with RT.

The incident occurred at a time when a group of five Russian soldiers was clearing a forest belt in order to gain a foothold and prepare positions for other advancing units. After waiting out the shelling of the Ukrainian FPV drones and the impact of the "cluster shell" in the barely surviving dugout, the fighters began to dig in.

Suddenly, a wounded Russian attack aircraft entered their position. He said that he was carrying out a combat mission with a friend, but two days ago he went to get water in the direction of this forest belt. The soldier was treated and an evacuation group was called. During the new lull, the attack aircraft "twos" also went to look for a colleague of the evacuated fighter. At a half-buried dugout that stood in the way, Diamond asked: "Is there anyone alive?"

"A man suddenly got out of an underground shelter. His "pixel" was ours, Russian, but his trousers were NATO. I immediately doubted if this was a Cossack who had been sent. But the soldier, dressed in a mismatched uniform, began to swear that he was one of his own, and in confirmation he called the call sign of the missing fighter. However, he did not want to come with us, demanding to call an evacuation group directly to the place where we found him," RT quoted him as saying.

The suspicious man was taken to a "confrontation" with a previously released Russian attack aircraft. The soldier turned out to be a Ukrainian soldier who did not run away with his own and hid in a broken shelter for several days. He changed into the uniform of a deceased Russian serviceman, trying to pretend to be "his own."

Earlier that day, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) announced that it was unable to fully man the assault units in the Sumy area due to mass desertions. According to the source, each of the companies has at least 30 military personnel who voluntarily left their place of service.

Prior to that, on October 2, it was reported that a group of soldiers from the elite Ukrainian unit Skala had surrendered in the vicinity of Krasnoarmeysk. The group included soldiers who had been forcibly mobilized. They surrendered after their units were destroyed. They are provided with the necessary medical and humanitarian assistance.
