The court arrested ex-Minister Abyzov for two months in a new case.
The Tverskoy Court of Moscow has arrested Mikhail Abyzov, the former Minister for Open Government Affairs of the Russian Federation, who is serving a sentence for creating a criminal community and other crimes, for two months in a new fraud case. This was reported on October 6 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.
The defense asked to deny the investigator's request.
"My client is in a place where my client will not be able to attend the case. I ask you to deny the investigator's request," explained his lawyer Timofey Gridnev.
Abyzov himself supported his lawyer.
"The petition of the investigation is simply surprising. The fact that I can influence witnesses and evidence, since I am a convicted person and I am in an isolation ward," the former minister clarified.
We are talking about a new criminal case initiated against the ex-minister. He was charged under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud on an especially large scale"), which provides for up to ten years in prison. According to this article, Abyzov faces up to 10 years in prison.
