Pancreatitis is an inflammation of the pancreas that can significantly impair the quality of life, requiring the abandonment of many familiar foods and creating additional mood problems. With this disease, fatty, fried, spicy foods, sweets and alcohol are prohibited. Vera Seryozhina, an expert doctor at the LabQuest medical company, told Izvestia about this on October 7.

"Inflammation of the pancreas can develop very quickly. This often happens due to overeating, eating fatty or spicy foods, and alcohol - especially if all this is combined in one meal, for example, during the holidays. The pancreatic juice secreted by the gland is highly active, and if it does not have time to enter the duodenum, the process of self—digestion of the gland tissue begins," said the specialist.

Seryozhina drew attention to the fact that the first signs of the disease are usually difficult to ignore. Among them are intense pain in the upper abdomen, often radiating to the back, nausea, vomiting, fever. In the case of acute pancreatitis, the pain is cramping and can develop quickly in a few hours. The chronic form of the disease is manifested by aching pains, bloating, unstable stools, flatulence due to insufficient enzyme production.

According to the doctor, when pancreatitis worsens, it is important to follow the rule of "cold, hunger and rest." In the early days of the disease, it is recommended to completely abstain from food in order to reduce inflammation. Next, anti-inflammatory drugs and enzymatic agents are prescribed to support the functioning of the pancreas. However, many mistakenly believe that it is possible to prevent an exacerbation by taking enzymes before a feast. This is harmful, as the constant intake of drugs disrupts the natural functioning of the gland.

"If the inflammation is not treated, severe complications are possible. Acute pancreatitis can lead to pancreatic necrosis and peritonitis, which are life-threatening. With a chronic course, the cells that produce insulin gradually die, which is a direct path to type 1 diabetes. In order not to miss this moment, it is recommended to periodically take blood tests for antibodies to beta cells of the pancreas, antibodies to glutamic acid decarboxylase and glycated hemoglobin," the expert said.

On October 5, GUTA CLINIC expert, gastroenterologist Elvira Komkova listed the first signs of liver problems. Pain can only come from the organ capsule, a dense surrounding shell that stretches with inflammation, swelling, or neoplasm growth. It is at this time that there is a feeling of heaviness, discomfort or dull pain in the right hypochondrium.
