Maxim Datsko, a militant of the battalion of the Azov special forces unit (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) of the National Guard of Ukraine, received 22 years in prison for the murder of a civilian in Mariupol. This was reported on October 6 by the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia.
It was established that Datsko served in the special forces unit of military unit 3057 of the National Guard of Ukraine as a platoon driver of a mortar battery. He committed this crime on March 9, 2022, following an illegal command order.
"During combat duty <...>, a civilian car was shot from a machine gun on Pobedy Avenue in the city of Mariupol. A civilian in it died from multiple gunshot wounds. At the same time, Datsko believed that the man held a pro—Russian position and views," the Telegram channel says.
The militant is charged with Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Ill-treatment of civilians") and paragraphs "g", "l" of part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code ("Murder committed by an organized group motivated by political and ideological hatred"). The court sentenced the defendant to 22 years of imprisonment to be served in a high-security penal colony.
Also on September 8, the Southern District Military Court sentenced a member of one of the Ukrainian nationalist battalions involved in war crimes against residents of Donbass to 16 years in prison. According to the press service of the Office of the Federal Security Service (UFSB) of Russia for the Luhansk People's Republic (LNR), he was found guilty of a crime under Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code of Russia ("Participation in a terrorist community").
