More than 20 tons of Uzbek grapes were not allowed in Krasnodar
A large shipment of dangerous grapes from Uzbekistan was detained at a checkpoint in Krasnodar. About 20.7 tons of fruits were infected with a parasite plant in a viable state, the press service of the Southern Interregional Rosselkhoznadzor Administration reports.
The quarantined products were imported into the region by road. Due to the presence of a malicious object in the product, the entire batch was deployed and sent back to the supplier.
The midge is an annual parasitic plant in the form of a threadlike or cord—like strongly branching stem. It lives at the expense of the victim plant, which wraps around and is sucked by special outgrowths.
The pest reproduces mainly by seeds, less often by fragments of stems. The midge is very harmful, affecting more than 200 species of herbaceous and woody plants. According to KrasnodarMedia news agency, there are 274 species of midges worldwide.
