Businessman Konstantin Ponomarev, accused of attempting to bribe a serviceman for agreeing to send him to a special military operation zone, did not commit these actions. Alexander Lyashenko, the businessman's lawyer, told Izvestia on October 6.

"The case was initiated under Articles 291 part 5, 291.1 part 5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. But the fact that they write that this is the opinion of the investigation that Ponomarev bribed a serviceman to go to his military base is complete nonsense," the lawyer said.

According to Lyashenko, the official to whom the businessman allegedly bribed is a psychologist by position. He added that on that day, the deadline for Ponomarev's involvement in the Tverskoy Court case expired, where the criminal prosecution against the defendant was to be terminated.

According to the newspaper Vedomosti, on September 5 of this year, Ponomarev was charged with a new charge under Part 5 of Article 291 ("Giving a bribe to an official on an especially large scale"). According to investigators, in July, while in jail, Ponomarev, through his lawyer Roman Yeronov, tried to transfer 2 million rubles to an employee of the military commissariat for a contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and subsequent service.

On September 17, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow found Ponomarev guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in a penal colony in a case of large-scale fraud and money laundering. The state prosecution also asked to fine Ponomarev 2.5 million rubles.

In 2017, the Presnensky District Court of Moscow arrested Ponomarev, known for his long-term litigation with IKEA, for a debt of almost 10 billion rubles. The businessman was charged under six articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, including attempted major fraud in the supply of generators to Crimea, as well as tax evasion in the amount of more than 4.7 billion rubles.
