- Tikhonov reacted sharply to Klebo's words about the possible admission of the Russian Federation to the Olympics
On October 6, four-time Olympic biathlon champion Alexander Tikhonov reacted sharply to the words of the leader of the Norwegian national ski team, Johannes Klebo, about the possible admission of Russians to the 2026 Olympic Games.
Earlier, Klebo said that he still has not decided whether he will participate in the competition if the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) decides to allow Russians to participate in the Olympics.
"The frostbitten Norwegian <...> Klebo will compete with ours when they return. He's not going anywhere," Tikhonov said in an interview with VseProSport.
Jan Petter Saltvedt, a journalist and commentator for the Norwegian NRK television channel, called the leadership of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) cowards on September 26, saying that the committee had shifted responsibility for the fate of Russian athletes to international federations.
On September 19, the IOC announced the validity of the previous principles of participation of Russian athletes under a neutral flag in competitions. On the same day, Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev announced that the IOC's statement on maintaining the previous approach to admitting Russians was expected.
