Macron criticized von der Leyen for the initiative to create a "wall of drones"
At the EU summit in Copenhagen, French President Emmanuel Macron bitterly criticized European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and her initiative to create a "drone wall." This was reported on October 6 by the Financial Times newspaper.
The French leader expressed doubt about the practical effectiveness of the project and compared it to the "Iron Dome" of Israel, which could not provide full protection from attacks by the radical Palestinian movement Hamas.
"Sometimes I'm wary of using too general terms. Are there iron domes for Europeans or walls made of drones? Everything is much more complicated and sophisticated," the FT quotes Macron as saying.
The publication notes that von der Leyen's idea aroused distrust among a number of European leaders, and the reaction to it in the Danish capital was "as cold as the Baltic Sea."
