German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump, during which he informed him about the initiative to use frozen Russian assets to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on October 5 by the official representative of the Cabinet of Germany Stefan Cornelius.

"They discussed the situation in Ukraine. The German Chancellor announced an initiative to use the frozen assets of the Russian Federation to support the Ukrainian armed forces," he said.
