- WP has learned about the plans of the US administration to complicate the issuance of disability benefits
The US presidential administration is considering the possibility of making changes to the rules for granting disability benefits, which may make it more difficult for older Americans to access them. This was reported on October 5 by The Washington Post (WP), citing sources.
"The Trump administration is preparing a plan that will make it more difficult for older Americans to receive disability benefits from the Social Security service," the publication says.
According to the newspaper, officials are considering the possibility of completely eliminating age as a criterion for raising the threshold to 60 years.
According to Jack Smalligan, a senior researcher at the Urban Development Institute, such changes could deprive up to 750,000 people of benefits over the next decade, and about 80,000 citizens, including widows and children, would lose payments on parental or marital rights.
Social Security official Barton Mackey noted that the agency is working to "improve the decision-making process and optimize the use of employment data," stressing that the changes will be published for public comment before approval.
On October 3, Fox News reported that the Trump administration plans to lay off 16,000 federal employees. It is clarified that such a decision was dictated by the American leader's plan to make massive cuts and cut government funding during the shutdown of the American government. According to the TV channel, the reduction in federal funding will affect those American states and cities that are under the control of the Democratic Party.
