The case was initiated after the deaths of two tourists while climbing a volcano in Kamchatka.

A criminal case was opened into the deaths of two climbers while climbing the Vilyuchinskaya Sopka volcano. This was reported on October 5 in the press service of the investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Kamchatka Territory.

"The investigation Department for the city of Yelizovo of the SU IC of Russia in the Kamchatka Territory has opened a criminal case into the deaths of two tourists as a result of falling from the slope of a volcano, Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code (Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code ("Causing death by negligence." — Ed.))," the agency said in a Telegram channel message.

It is specified that a 60-year-old man and a 27-year-old girl died as a result of the incident, recorded at the time of the tourists' passage along an unregistered route in the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Investigative and procedural actions are currently being carried out to establish all the circumstances of the incident.

The breakdown of the climbers on the Vilyuchinsky volcano in Kamchatka became known on Saturday, October 4. According to the Izvestia source, rescue services were called to the scene of the tragedy: a helicopter from the disaster medicine center with doctors and specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Later, the Minister of Emergency Situations of the Kamchatka Territory, Sergei Lebedev, announced the death of one person in his address on the same day, then the death toll increased to two.

At the same time, according to the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Kamchatka Territory, the third participant of the ascent, who was higher up the slope, was not injured. The department clarified that work had begun on her descent to the specialists of the Disaster Medicine Center.
