Italian singer Pupo commented on the media reaction to his interview with Izvestia
Italian singer and composer Pupo (real name Enzo Ginazzi) told Izvestia on October 4 that he would continue to come to Russia, despite heavy criticism in the Italian media.
On the eve of his concert in Moscow, Pupo gave Izvestia an interview, which later became the subject of discussion in the Italian press. In most cases, the media were outraged by such boldness and directness of the artist, and youth and music publications emphasized a friendly position towards the Russian and Italian peoples. Italian journalists were especially outraged by the artist's words about the possible acquisition of Russian citizenship due to the potential ban of the Italian authorities on travel to Russia.
"I will continue here (to Russia. — Ed.) to come. In my opinion, it is, on the contrary, scandalous to try to ban culture, sports, everything related to music, my work. I will continue to do this," he said.
Pupo called it normal for people to appear who have a negative attitude towards his choice to visit Russia. He added that he respects the opinion of those who oppose his position, but pointed out that in response they should also respect his opinion. According to him, critics "have to get used to the fact that some people don't think like them."
"No one in the world should allow themselves to decide who is good and who is bad," the composer concluded.
On October 3, it was reported that Ukraine's Ambassador to Switzerland, Irina Venediktova, sent letters to members of the Zurich Cantonal Council demanding that performances by Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko and other artists at the Zurich Opera House scheduled for November next year be canceled. Venediktova also pointed out the artist's participation in the ceremonies of the Sochi Olympics and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. She called on the Swiss authorities to provide a "suitable environment."
