The Georgian Interior Ministry has opened a criminal case under five articles in connection with the riots in Tbilisi, including for calling for the overthrow of the government. This was reported on October 4 by Sputnik Georgia in its Telegram channel.
"In total, the investigation is underway on five counts, including assaulting police officers, organizing and participating in gang violence, destroying other people's property, and attempting to seize or block facilities of strategic or special importance," the publication says.
On the same day, protests against the ruling Georgian Dream party began in Tbilisi's Freedom Square against the backdrop of the country's parliamentary elections. The demonstration was joined by immigrants who arrived in Georgia for today's rally. In the footage from social networks, you can see protesters not only with national, but also with American flags.
Later it became known that protesters in Tbilisi broke into the courtyard of the Georgian president's residence, breaking through iron barriers. The special forces used pepper spray against them.
Georgian Deputy Interior Minister Alexander Darakhvelidze said that 14 police officers were injured during the riots in Tbilisi. He clarified that several people were detained during the protests.
