Nutritionist warned about the presence of hidden sugar in popular "healthy" foods
Now more and more people are striving to lead a healthy lifestyle and eat right. In this regard, they are being marketed as fit, eco, "sugar-free", while these products contain the most added sugar, which is hushed up even in the composition. About this on October 4, "Gazeta.Ru" told nutritionist Veronika Gusakova.
According to the expert, manufacturers most often use many synonyms to hide the addition of sugar: agave syrup, fruit juice concentrate, maltodextrin, cane juice, coconut sugar. From a chemical point of view, it is still the same sugar that increases glucose levels and stimulates the release of insulin.
The doctor called yoghurts with various fruit additives the most dangerous products for healthy lifestyle.
"They are often positioned as light and useful. But more than 60% contain from 6 to 12 grams of sugar per 100 grams — that is, one small jar can provide a daily allowance of added sugar for a child," Gusakova explained.
Among other harmful "benefits", the expert named supposedly sugar-free bars, grain bread, sauces, fruit smoothies and drinks based on vegetable milk.
"When choosing products, look at the composition, not the label. Look for the words syrup, nectar, concentrate, maltodextrin," the nutritionist recommended.
The specialist also recommended paying attention to the amount of carbohydrates in the composition, since sugar is one of its main sources.
In addition, Gusakova suggested paying attention to whole foods: fruits, berries, nuts, and simple fermented dairy products. In addition to sucrose, they contain fiber, which does not cause spikes in blood glucose.
Earlier, on October 1, the Sohu media portal revealed the ability of breakfast to affect blood sugar levels throughout the day. It is noted that a low-carb breakfast stabilizes blood sugar levels.
