Trump will attend the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the US Navy
On October 3, US President Donald Trump announced that a solemn event would be held in Norfolk, Virginia, in honor of the 250th anniversary of the country's naval forces. According to him, despite the government shutdown, the celebration will take place and will be "the largest in the history of the US Navy."
"The U.S. Navy has been planning this event for months, and I refuse to let them down. It will be the largest celebration in the history of the navy," Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.
He noted that thousands of military personnel and their families are expected at the event.
The ceremony will also be attended by the First Lady, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Secretary of the Navy John Phelan.
Earlier, on October 3, the White House announced that more than 1.3 million US military personnel were forced to serve without pay due to the shutdown. Many families have already started to apply for food aid. The authorities warn that if the budget crisis drags on, it may lead to disruption of social programs for military personnel and their families, as well as complicate the training and combat readiness of the army.
