Ex-Supreme Court judge Momotov was banned from opening bank accounts
Viktor Momotov, a former judge of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, was banned from opening new bank accounts as part of an anti-corruption case filed by the Prosecutor General's Office (GP). This became known on October 4 from a statement by law enforcement agencies.
"As part of the interim measures taken by the Ostankino Court of Moscow at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office, Momotov is prohibited from opening new bank accounts," TASS quoted a fragment of the statement.
At the same time, a similar ban was also imposed on persons affiliated with Momotov.
On September 23, it was reported that the Ostankino District Court of the capital received a lawsuit from the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation against Momotov. According to the source of Izvestia, as part of the lawsuit, the agency requires the seizure of real estate registered to third parties. The judge registered the acquired real estate and business with trusted and controlled persons, without declaring his income. The Prosecutor General's Office allocates a separate source of income for business tax evasion of more than 500 million rubles.
On the same day, Momotov appealed to the commission of the Council of Judges with a request to verify information disseminated in the media about possible violations of anti-corruption legislation. Momotov said that after the official notification of the receipt of the relevant claim in court, he is ready to provide all necessary explanations and documents.
On September 26, it was reported that the Supreme Qualification Board of Judges of the Russian Federation (HCCC) of Russia prematurely terminated the powers of Judge Momotov. On October 3, the court restricted Momotov's travel abroad.
He has held the position since 2010, and in 2013 he was elected Secretary of the Plenum of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. Momotov joined the presidium of the supreme judicial body in 2019. In December 2016, he was elected chairman of the Council of Judges of Russia, and in December 2022 he was re-elected for a new term.
